'No hawker eviction this month', orders Calcutta HC in Raliway land encroachment case
The Janata Dal (United) has finalised the entry of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, into active politics, with a formal announcement expected within a day or two. Senior party leader and state minister Sharwan Kumar confirmed that Nishant will be assigned a “bigger responsibility,” though his exact role is yet to be disclosed.
Party leaders indicated that discussions are underway regarding the nature of his assignment, including the possibility of a Rajya Sabha nomination. While no official confirmation has been made about his candidature for the Upper House, leaders maintained that the final decision would be taken shortly by the party’s top leadership.
Nishant Kumar, who has largely maintained a low public profile, is an engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra. Despite staying away from active politics for years, sections within the JD(U) have consistently urged him to take on a formal role in the organisation.
Speculation about his political debut gained momentum after the National Democratic Alliance’s landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Party leaders have publicly stated that workers and supporters have long expected him to assume responsibilities within the party structure.
With the path now formally cleared, senior leaders are expected to meet and chart out the future course once Nishant Kumar joins. His induction marks a significant development in Bihar’s political landscape, potentially reshaping internal dynamics within the JD(U) ahead of upcoming political engagements.
